15 Calaveras Horses Seized Due To Neglect

Sponsored by:

Angels Camp, CA — Horses were removed from a ranch at 4549 Red Hill Road in Calaveras County.

The Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Division executed a search warrant at the property this week and removed the 15 horses due to alleged neglect. The Sheriff’s Office reports that owners Paul and Kimberly Paulden where investigated in September of 2011 because they had 20 “skinny” horses on the property. 10 of the 20 were released to Horse Plus Rescue, and two of which died shortly after transport.

The Pauldens had been cooperating with Animal Services to improve the conditions and care of the remaining horses. However, animal services received a call this week that the herd numbers had increased. The agency responded and found that the claim was correct, and that some of the horses were in poor condition. The horses were removed and those in the most critical condition were taken to the Angels Camp Veterinary Hospital for care and rehabilitation. The remaining horses were taken to the Rehorse Rescue Ranch in Jamestown and a private ranch in Angels Camp.
