Forest Service Could Receive Lyons Property
Sonora, CA — 628 acres around Lyons Dam Reservoir could be handed over to the Forest Service (Stanislaus National Forest).
The land is owned by PG&E, but must be donated for public use as part of a 2001 bankruptcy settlement. The group in charge of finding the best public use is the Pacific Forest and Watershed Lands Stewardship Council. A vote will take place in Sacramento on January 19th whether to recommend that the Forest Service, which has emerged as the top finalist, receive the fee title.
The Forest Service has property around Lyons Dam already, and Stewardship Council officials believe that the federal agency is the best fit to effectively manage the property.
