Local Churches Prepare For the Easter Season

Sponsored by:

St Matthew Lutheran Church of Sonora is one of the many local churches that will be celebrating Easter Sunday on April 21st.

Pastor Tom Sharpe of St Matthew Lutheran Church, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Sharpe has been the Pastor of the St Matthew Lutheran since July of 2001. Near the beginning of his tenure, the church changed locations from Hope Lane in a residential area near downtown Sonora to Joshua Way, which is located west of Tuolumne Road near the Junction Shopping Center.

“I still think of it as a brand new building, but I just looked at the paint on my walls this morning and thought that we will need to paint soon”.

Most of the local Christian Churches throughout the Mother Lode will hold special services and/or events both on and leading up to Easter Sunday, April 21st.

Asked if Easter is a special time for the Church, Sharpe responded, “Yes, Easter is the center of it all. The bottom line of Christianity is what God has done for us. Easter hits on that key message completed. Jesus didn’t come to give us more rules. We already had the rules. But here, it is about what Christ has done for us on Good Friday, with bringing forgiveness on the cross and what Christ has done about rising from the dead, saying that there is hope beyond the life that we see today.. that this life is not the end of it all but we would rise again also as Christ has risen.”

Sharpe invites the community to come celebrate Easter on April 21st with a traditional service at 8 AM and a more contemporary service at 10:30 AM. In between, there will be an Easter Brunch served from 9:15 to 10:15 AM. This will include a made-to-order omelette bar with scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, fruit bowls, coffee, juice and tea. There will also be an Easter Egg hunt for the children.

St Matthew Lutheran Church of Sonora sponsors “The Lutheran Hour” radio program, heard every Sunday morning beginning at 7:30 AM on AM 1450 and FM 102.7 KVML.

Additionally, the “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45 on AM 1450 and FM 102.7 KVML.
