Memorial Day Weekend Arrests
Sacramento, CA– This Memorial Day weekend the number of DUI arrests were low in Calaveras, Tuolumne and Statewide.
In Tuolumne County CHP Officer, Nick Norton, says there were five arrests made between 6:00pm Friday and Midnight Monday. One citation involving a person cited for driving under-the-influence was related to a minor accident on Mono way. There were no fatalities or other DUI related accidents.
In Calaveras County, CHP Officer Rebecca Myers says the San Andreas CHP made five arrests. Last year they arrested four people. One of the DUI incidents involved a man who sustained major injuries in a rollover accident on Highway 49 in the San Andreas area. The full story “Calaveras Man Hurt In Crash” is here. Another incident, also on Saturday night, involved some property damage in Murphys. According to Myers the person, later cited for DUI, drove up onto a sidewalk between two homes and hit a tree in the Oak Tree subdivision. They then turned on to Bret Heart drive before they stopped and were arrested.
The San Andreas CHP Office is still entering the citations that were issued over the three-day weekend. Myers says that over 100 citations were issued for things such as seat belt violations and speeding.
The CHP says this year in California, officers arrested 1,266 drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence compared to 1,305 for the same period last year.
