Sequester To Impact Father’s Day Fly-In

Sponsored by:

Columbia, CA — There are various ways that the federal sequester is impacting special events across the country.

It has been well documented how flyovers are no longer occurring at large sporting events on the federal government’s dime. Tuolumne County Administrator Craig Pedro says it will also impact a popular local event.

“A portable tower out at Columbia airport is usually brought in and funded by the FAA, and this is how we have been able to put on our Father’s Day Fly-in,” says Pedro. “Because of sequester, the FAA is saying they are not able to fund that tower operation. So, we will need to constrict the Father’s Day Fly-in from a two day event, to a one-day event.”

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, June 15th. It is expected to be a much scaled down version of past years. It will be more of a “customer appreciation” event. More details about this year’s fly-in will be released as the event draws nearer.
