Update: Fowler Murder Investigation
Valley Springs, CA – Calaveras County Detectives continue to search the house where eight year old Leila Fowler was murdered last Saturday.
Sgt. Chris Hewitt says, “We do continue to eliminate leads and right now major thing going on is we are processing the scene for evidence.” Hewitt won’t reveal if they are looking for specific evidence, but knives were taken by the FBI for analysis.
Calaveras Sheriff’s Officials say even though a witness recanted her story of seeing the murder suspect running away from the home investigators are still searching for the man Leila Fowler’s 12-year-old brother described chasing from the home. Hewitt says as they continue to dismiss leads they are narrowing their focus, but that doesn’t mean it has shifted to the Fowler family.
Hewitt says, “The family, right now, they are being interviewed as witnesses in this case. We do have other leads that we are following up on hopefully developing a composite sketch.”
Hewitt would not elaborate on those possible other leads, but says they are working with the 12-year-old brother to get a composite sketch of the killer.
