Casino Hotel Nears Opening

Sponsored by:

Tuolumne, CA — Tuolumne County is hoping for an economic boost as Black Oak Casino is gearing up to open its new hotel.

Paul Medawar is the hotel General Manager, and says a soft opening is scheduled for April 1st, and the official public opening will be May 1st. “We’re very excited for the Tribe and everyone involved,” says Medawar. “This is one of the premier destinations in this area, so we plan to attract a lot of Bay Area travelers who will now have a place to stay when they visit the Casino.”

Around 59 employees are being hired to work at the hotel, but Medawar says the number of new hires is closer to 100 when you count the supplemental staff needed to support the hotel. In mid-January there was a two day job fair, where over 700 applicants applied for positions.

Medwar adds that about 90-95% of the work done on the building has been constructed by locals.  It is a 116 thousand square foot facility with 148 rooms, a conference center, and several other amenities. The hotel and casino will now be known as Black Oak Casino Resort. Future plans still call for a golf course and housing development.
