Spring Clean For Fire Safety

Sponsored by:

Spring arrived today and fire safety in the city of Sonora (and beyond) begins with spring cleaning.

Mike Barrows, Sonora Fire Chief, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

According to Barrows, “Now is the time to clean up the winter debris outside of your structure. Fire season typically begins anywhere from May 15th through June 15th. However, the last few months have been unusually dry, so use this time over the next couple of weeks to clean and prepare.

If you look at leaf litter, it scatters on the inside corners of gutters and valleys in your roof. It has fallen in the exact same areas that burning debris will fall during a neighborhood or regional fire. So clean that leaf litter and debris fuel now.

Take a look at standing weeds, loose logs, overgrown bushes and out of control vegetation and do what is necessary today. It may possibly save your house later this Summer.”

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
