Bollywood Nights At Mother Lode Fairgrounds

Sponsored by:

Last week, the Celtic Faire took place over a three day period at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. This Saturday, Bollywood Nights takes over from 5 PM – midnight.

Caroline Schirato, Development Director for Sierra Waldorf School, was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Bollywood Nights is this year’s theme for the 17th Annual Rites of Spring Auction.

“Each year we choose a theme,” said Schirato. “And once we do, we go all out. Bollywood will be on display in the way of costumes, decorations and the cuisine served.”

The annual auction is the largest single largest fundraising night of the year for Sierra Waldorf.

Sierra Waldorf School, located on Rawhide Road in Jamestown, is dedicated to cultivating the capacities of each child through a developmentally respectful education based on the work of Rudolf Steiner, the founder of Waldorf Education.

Schirato said, “We create an environment that respects the individuality of each child, rather than cater to an entire classroom.”

The Sierra Waldorf School strives to create a community of caring adults who are committed to self-development, social responsibility and servant leadership.

Waldorf education is an international program that is the fastest growing independent educational movement in the world, now with more than 900 Waldorf schools in 83 countries.

The Waldorf curriculum is broad and comprehensive from Kindergarten through 8th grade (in the case of the Jamestown school).

According to Schirato, a Sierra Waldorf School education prepares children and young adults to embrace learning.

“Many of our graduates have become the Valedictorian and Saluditorian of both Sonora and Summerville High School and accepted to top colleges in the U.S.” said Schirato.

Funding for the school is made possible through regular student tuition fees, community donations, fundraising programs and local grants issued. The school receives no federal or state funding.
