Habitat’s Parrots Ferry Village Update
Progress is being made at Parrots Ferry Village, the thirty-five unit subdivsion that eventually will be all Habitat homes.
Betsy Harden, Executive Director of Habitat For Humanity of Tuolumne County, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
“One of the exciting things is that Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has partnered with us to do a half house sponsorship on one of the homes that we’re building,” said Harden “We’re scheduled to have a wall raising on April 6th.”
Habitat is currently in the process of selecting the families for the two homes in that duplex.
The Parrots Ferry Village project will continue for the next several years. There are four homes completed (two duplexes) and another duplex under construction and the foundation is being poured for yet another two homes.
Volunteers are both needed and welcomed. If you would like to find out ways that you can help to build homes, call (209) 288-2096.
Habitat for Humanity of Tuolumne County is funded only by their fundraising efforts. Harden says a half a million dollars per year is what is needed in donations, in order to retain the overall goal of building four homes per year.
One major fundraiser is coming up this weekend at Dodge Ridge Ski Area. The three day event is called the “Habitat All Mountain Challenge and Food and Fire Festival”.
The mountain skiing and snowboard challenges and competition will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The “Food and Fire” portion of the weekend will be held on Saturday beginning at 3 PM in the Family Lodge. This event involves sixteen restaurants, all offering food and beverage for just twenty dollars. After the sun sets, a large firework show will then be held outdoors.
