Remembering Murphys Teens

Sponsored by:

Murphys, CA — A candlelight vigil will be held Wednesday night in the quad at Bret Harte High School for Alex and Macaila Marshall.

It will begin at 7pm. A memorial will also be held this coming Saturday at 11am at the school’s football stadium. The student body and staff at Bret Harte High School are inviting the public to both events.

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office says the two were shot by their father Phillip Marshall at their Murphys home, shortly before he took his own life. An autopsy will be conducted on all three of the bodies.

When questioned about whether Philip Marshall had any past run-ins with law enforcement, Sgt. Chris Hewitt of the Sheriff’s Office says he was booked into Calaveras County Jail in December of 2008 on charges of battery, disturbing the peace and making annoying/harassing phone calls. It stemmed from an argument with his estranged wife and her sister.

Philip Marshall was a former pilot, and he had written several books. Some had to do with government conspiracy theories, such as claiming the federal government was involved in carrying out the 911 attacks. He’s also been featured on national talk shows on the topic.

A bereavement fund to help pay for the funerals of Alex and Macaila is set up at the US Bank in Angels Camp.
