Council To Recognize Police And Firefighters

Sonora, CA — Several people will be honored next week from the Sonora Police Department and Fire Department.

Fire Chief Mike Barrows will recognize the “2012 Firefighter of the Year” recipients. Fire Captain Grant Miller will be recognized in the Career category, Fire Engineer Neil Gamez for his part-time work, Firefighter Derek Drown in the Intern category, and Firefighter Joshua Fraga for his volunteer work.

Sonora Police Chief Mark Stinson will also honor his 2012 Employees/Volunteers of the Year. The Officer of the Year is Mike Christ, the Reserve Officer of the Year is Gordon Winningham, the PACT Member of the Year is Joyce Frazier, and the Explorer of the Year is Travis Finny. The Civilian Employee of the Year is awarded to the entire Dispatch Team, Tammy Gillespie, Krishna Livingston, Naomi Kneip and Cyndi Nordvik.

The Council is also scheduled to hear a report on crime statistics from Police Chief Stinson, a report on December happenings within the Community Development Department from Director Rachelle Kellogg, and a Public Works staff report from Bill Seldon.

Next week’s meeting has been moved to Tuesday in recognition of Monday being Martin Luther King Day. The meeting will begin at 5pm at City Hall.
