First Weekend Of February Events

The first weekend of February offers some great opportunities to support local charities. Keep in mind the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the high country through 10 PM Monday. The winter weather details will continue to be updated here, the ski report is here.

The 34th Annual Orient Express Run at the Chinese Camp School begins Saturday, February 2, at 9 AM with a one-mile fun run or at 10 AM a 4 mile run. The event is put on by the Sonora Sunrise Rotary to benefit the Tuolumne County Special Athletes. Location details are here. 

Saturday morning is also a Tuolumne County Master Gardeners Open Garden Day. The February topics of discussion are fruit tree pruning and preparing a bare root fruit tree for planting and soil preparation for spring planting. The Demonstration Garden will be open from 10am to 1pm, activities begin at 10:30 AM. There is no cost to attend Open Garden Day or to tour the garden. A map is in the event listing here.

The Lake Tullock Lions Club will host the Copperopolis Crab Feed with Dungeness crab, pasta, raffle prizes, entertainment and a full bar. The proceeds will be used for scholarships and other projects. Ticket information is here.

The Curtis Creek Parent Association is hosting a fundraising Gala to support Curtis Creek School’s art and music programs at the Sonora Opera Hall this Saturday. Tickets include appetizers, dinner, an auction and dancing music. All money raised will continue funding the recently implemented the “Meet the Masters” art education and lesson program, and provide for music classes, instruments and band uniforms. Central Calaveras Firefighters Association is having a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday from 8:00-10:30 AM at the Mountain Ranch Town Hall. Details are here.

As detailed here, the 33rd annual Frank Salel Super Bowl Breakfast will take place this Sunday morning at the John Muir Building at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. The event is put on by the Sonora 49er Rotary Club to help fund scholarships for graduating Sonora High seniors. Also on Sunday at 4 PM is the Mother Lode Adventist Junior Academy Silent Auction. The event is held in the school’s gym and the money they raise will go towards improving their athletic facilities. The community event listing is here.
