Some Mother Lode Closings Dec. 5 For Pres. George HW Bush Mourning Day
Sonora, CA — President Donald J. Trump has declared Wednesday, Dec. 5 as a federal holiday and day of mourning in recognition of the passing of President George H.W. Bush. Our 41st President’s funeral will also take place that day.
This means all federal buildings will be closed, including post offices.
As far as Mother Lode observances go, so far Clarke Broadcasting has heard from Tuolumne County Acting County Administrator Tracie Riggs, who shares that per the recommendation from County Counsel, most county buildings will be closed, that Public Safety will follow their normal routine scheduling for holidays and that the Recorders Office will remain open.
The U.S. financial markets traditionally close during a presidential funeral and will do so again. The last time this happened was for the funeral of President Gerald Ford in January 2007. The markets also closed in June 2004 for President Ronald Reagan and in April 1994 for President Richard Nixon.
