500-Acre Burn Near Angels Camp On Hold
San Andreas, CA – CAL Fire cancelled a prescribed 500-acre planned burn this week.
CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore confirms that due to high winds and personnel working current incidents the burn slated to begin tomorrow on the Bear Mountain Shaded Fuel Break and Whittle Vegetation Management Plan site was called off for now. Clarke Broadcasting reported plans last week for the activities here.
The burn area, located west of Angels Camp around the Fowler Peak Lookout, would have been worked tomorrow through Friday with the goals of reducing fuel loading around critical infrastructure as well as providing training for firefighters in numerous fire line and overhead maneuvers. She adds that plans are to reschedule the burn when conditions are more conducive.
Areas around the Mother Lode remain under a red flag warning until 11 p.m. tonight and a 35-acre incident in Mountain Ranch dubbed the Whiskey Fire, near Whiskey Slide and Jesus Maria roads, is keeping firefighters busy. At last report it was a quarter contained.
