First Weekend In October Events

The first weekend in October features several popular annual autumn events. As reported here tonight Adventist Health Sonora is hosting Ladies Night Out. Friday evening the Sonora Lions is hosting their annual Newt McKenna Lobster Dinner Fundraiser. Ticket and more details are in the event listing here.

Saturday will provide the first of the Railtown 1897 weekend Harvest Haunt Express train rides. Details are here. Also in Jamestown on Saturday at 4 PM on Main Street the Handmade Parade will begin to celebrate California ARTS Day. The handmade parade celebrates creativity and diversity in a non-political activity that fosters community involvement and creative expression. Described as a “walking theatrical performance”, the parade will also glow after dark. Learn more about the MotherLode Makers that help the parade happen here.

In Twain Harte it is the Annual Oktoberfest and Pints In The Pines. Food, arts, kids activities from 10 AM to 2 PM and the beer tasting will open at noon. Details are here.

Saturday is the 25th Calaveras Grape Stomp in Murphys Community Park. It is also the Gold Rush Street Faire, with over 100 food, art and crafts vendors from one end of Main Street in Murphys to the other. Their event listing is here.

At Groveland’s Evangelical Free Church on Saturday the 12th biennial quilt show entitled “Stitched With Love” will be held as detailed here. In addition to the hand crafted quilts, you can enjoy a soup lunch or other baked food, shop at the craft faire, and participate in the silent auction. At Pine Mountain Lake Airport, EAA Chapter 1337 pilots will introduce kids from 8 to 17 years old to a complimentary 20-30 minute flight. On Sunday bring your lunch and head up to Herring Creek to ride with the Twain Harte Horsemen. The Twain Harte Horsemen are sponsoring a Poker Ride (open to the public) from Leland Meadows Snow Park to Herring Creek Lake from 10 AM to 3 PM. More details are here.
