Update On Calaveras Recall Efforts Still Underway
Update at 5:03 pm: It looks like recall efforts against another Calaveras supervisor have failed.
Calaveras County Elections officials say they did not receive a signatures packet by 5 p.m. from the petitioners who were working to recall District 1 Supervisor and Board Chair Gary Tofanelli.
Original Post at 4:49pm: San Andreas, CA — Today at 5 p.m. is the deadline for backers of a recall initiative against a Calaveras supervisor to get their signatures in.
Petitioners working to recall District 1 Supervisor and Chair Gary Tofanelli must submit their signature packet to the Elections Office by the close of business. At 4:35 p.m. officials say they had not yet received any documents or communication that they would be forthcoming, although they added that it is not unusual for such submissions to come in literally at the last minute. If submitted, it will take a minimum of 1,396 verified signatures in order to recall him.
Signatures submitted on June 6 are still being verified to determine if a recall measure against District 4 Supervisor Dennis Mills will make the November ballot. Petitioners submitted over 2,000 signatures, of which at least 1,555 must be validated in order to bring the measure to the ballot. The Elections Office has until July 19 to complete its review.
An effort to recall District 2 Supervisor and Vice Chair Jack Garamendi failed earlier this year.
The other two board members, District 3 Supervisor Michael Oliveira and District 5 Supervisor Clyde Clapp, face competitive races this fall to keep their seats.
