Tuolumne, CA — This afternoon, outgoing Summerville Union High School District Superintendent Robert Griffith announces that his successor has been chosen.

Griffith tells Clarke Broadcasting that Michael Merrill, former principal of Calaveras High School, will be formally approved at next Tuesday’s school board meeting and begin working July 16.

“The Board of Education made its decision with input gathered from key stakeholder groups in the district regarding the qualities desired in the next district leader,” Griffith shares, saying that Merrill was chosen after a rigorous screening and interview process.

Further explaining Griffith states, “Based on the feedback received from our parents, staff, and community members, we were looking for someone who is a collaborative, energetic leader who values our accomplishments and wants to continue our efforts to provide the quality education our students deserve and our families expect.”

Merrill began working at Calaveras High as a science teacher before becoming assistant principal and further ascending to the position of assistant superintendent of fiscal services ahead of becoming the principal.

Griffith adds, “The Summerville Union High School Board of Education is excited about the selection of Mr. Mike Merrill as superintendent and looks forward to working together in providing an outstanding education for our students well into the future.”
