Swearing In Of New Police Chief And Planning For Events

Sonora, CA — During tonight’s Sonora City Council meeting there will be an official swearing in ceremony for new Police Chief Turu VanderWiel. He was recently serving as acting police chief, and is stepping into the permanent role that was last held by Mark Stinson.

Also tonight the council will hold a workshop regarding the 2019 budget, vote on closing Washington Street and Stockton Road on June 16 for the Special Olympics Torch Run, and consider allowing alcohol on Linoberg Street on June 23 as part of a Sonora Tap Room summer kickoff event. There will also be a resolution related to parking restrictions during the Mother Lode Fair on July 5-8. The open to the public meeting begins at 5pm at City Hall.
