Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — Less than a week before the June Primary election, a new poll shows growing support for Democrat Gavin Newsom and Republican John Cox.

The top two vote-getters on Tuesday, regardless of party, will move on to the November General Election.  The UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies Poll shows Newsom, a Democrat, has support of 33-percent of likely voters, and Cox, a Republican, has 20-percent. The number of undecided voters has dropped from 13-percent in an April poll to 7-percent currently.

Newsom, the current Lt. Governor, was the first candidate to declare his intention to run. Cox, a businessman, has been competing for votes with Republican Assemblyman Travis Allen of Huntington Beach. The latest poll was conducted shortly after Cox received the endorsement of President Donald Trump.

Coming in third in the new poll is Democrat Antonio Villaraigosa with 13-percent, fourth was Allen with 12-percent and Democrat John Chiang was fifth with 7-percent.
