Alleged Squatter Arrested In Sonora
Sonora, CA – An Altaville woman was arrested after allegedly breaking into a Sonora home and then moving in another person while racking up utility bills.
A recent report of someone who may be living inside a residence that was supposed to be vacant brought Tuolumne County Sheriff’s deputies to the area of Snell Street. Once on the scene, they contacted 47-year-old Anastasia Stein and also an unidentified man staying there.
Further investigation revealed that Stein was not supposed to be at the residence and during her time there she had used utilities and caused damage to the interior of the residence. Deputies also discovered pry marks on an exterior door leading into the home. Sheriff’s officials noted that inside they found the locking doorknob removed from the front door and replaced with a new deadbolt, with the keys in Stein’s possession.
Deputies determined the man had been invited by Stein to visit her and he was released. She was arrested and booked on charges of felony 2nd-degree burglary, vandalism over $10,000, and theft of utilities.
