Sonora Upsets Division VI

Sponsored by:

The third-ranked Sonora Wildcats upset the number-one-ranked Bradshaw Christian Pride in a game that went down to the wire yesterday. A run in the game’s final seconds gave the Wildcats the 23-20 victory over the Pride.

Sonora received the ball to start the game and was the first to put up points with a run into the end zone by #7 Cash Byington. Bradshaw answered with a score of their own and tied the game up. Sonora worked the ball into field goal territory and a kick from #8 Garibay gave Sonora the lead once again, which they held on to going into the locker room at halftime.

Sonora kicked the ball off to start the second half, and Bradshaw Christian threw it effectively but was plagued by penalties that pushed them back deep into their own territory. Bradshaw Christian threw an interception to #3 Tanner Navarro, who returned it for a touchdown and gave Sonora a 16-7 lead after a missed PAT. Bradshaw scored two touchdowns as their throwing game came to life and they completed several passes for over 20 yards. The second score gave the Pride their first lead of the game at 16-20 with a missed 2pt conversion. Sonora got the ball with a little over four minutes in the game and two timeouts. They moved efficiently down the field and with the game on the line and 4th and goal #5, Eli Ingalls ran the ball into the end zone and with a final PAT from #8 Garibay and only 9 seconds on the clock, the Wildcats scored a win to become the Sac Joaquin Sectional Division VI champions.

The Chicken Ranch Casino Player of the Game was #5 Eli Ingalls. The Wildcats will now continue on to compete in the state championship. Stay tuned to mymotherlode.com.
