Last night the Summerville Bears hosted the Big Valley Christian Lions. This was a semifinal game of the Sac Joaquin Section Division VII playoff tournament, with the winner moving on to the finals next week. The Bears started the game on offense and scored the first touchdown of the night with a beautiful 28-yard pass from Bryce Leveroos to Luke Larson. Not to be outdone, the Lions drove down and scored on a 21-yard pass, but with the Bears blocking the extra point, they still led 7 to 6. From this point the Bear defense roared to life, the offense played with their normal zeal, and the Bears led at the half 28 to 6. They continued to control the game in the second half and rolled on to a 42-to-6 victory.

Leveroos scored two of the other three first-half TDs, one on a 9-yard run in the first quarter and the other on a 6-yard scamper in the second quarter. The third TD came on a 43-yard pick-six by Owen Herrera in the second quarter. The third quarter was void of scoring, but in the fourth, Leveroos took another one in from 5 yards out and Colten Cash dashed around the left side for a 48-yard score. Once again, Bryson Benites was a perfect 7 for 7 kicking extra points.

The Bears will play for the championship next Saturday against the second-ranked Stone Ridge Christian Knights, who beat Rio Vista 27 to 12 to earn their way into the finals. The game will be played at St. Marys High School in Stockton at 3 in the afternoon.

The Hot Hit of the Game was made by Luke Larson when he drove a Lion runner to the ground and stopped a drive in Bear territory. Evan Roberson earned the Player of the Game with his fine defensive play, which included two quarterback sacks.
