Stanislaus National Forest lifts Peak Fire Closure  Area Today

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Stanislaus National Forest fire officials today announced the lifting of the closure area for the 316-acre Peak Fire that ignited near Herring Creek outside of Pinecrest on October 2nd.

Forest officials issued Forest Order STF-16-2024-11 on Oct. 1, which limited access to forest lands, roads, and trails to ensure public safety and support firefighting efforts. The order was also an effort to protect the public from any hazards caused by the blaze and restricted access to Herring Creek and Hammill Canyon Loop. They added, “The fire has been in a controlled status since Oct. 30th.” The order was to last through December 5, as earlier reported here.

The fire exploded in acres a couple of days after it started, jumping from 40 acres to 311 overnight due to blustery conditions.  To view the full order, click here. Further questions or concerns should be directed to Stanislaus National Forest Public Affairs Officer, Benjamin Cossel: benjamin.cossel@usda.gov or 209.288.6261.
