Controlled Burning Underway At New Hogan Reservoir

Sponsored by:

Valley Springs, CA — CAL Fire and other cooperating agencies are doing a hazardous fuels reduction burn at New Hogan Reservoir today ahead of the annual fireworks display that will take place this coming Saturday evening.

Approximately 12 acres of grass is being ignited along the shoreline of the lake. In addition to removing fuels at the day-use recreation site, the effort is designed to provide firefighter training.

It will only take a couple of hours. The burning started at eight o’clock this morning and is anticipated to wrap up during this 10 o’clock hour. Firefighters will remain on the scene until all hotspots have been extinguished. Smoke is visible nearby. Other agencies helping include the Calaveras Consolidated Fire Department, US Army Corps of Engineers, and the Calaveras Air Pollution Control District.

The New Hogan Fireworks show is always held on the last Saturday in June and starts at dusk.
