Sponsored by:

Mariposa, CA — 83 firefighters remain assigned to the Detwiler Fire in Mariposa County, and it remains 98-percent contained.

The fire that ignited on July 16 burned 81,826 acres and destroyed 131 structures. At one point over 5,000 firefighters were helping to battle the flames. CAL Fire has indicated that it was caused by firearms being shot on public lands, but who exactly was responsible, is still under investigation. It started near the intersection of Detwiler Road and Hunters Valley Road, two miles east of Lake McClure.

Air resources are no longer assigned to the fire, but there are eight water tenders still on scene.
