Update: Twist Fire Acreage Hike And Evacuations
Update at 9:45 p.m.: Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Andrea Benson reports that animals being taken to Mother Lode Fairgrounds evacuation shelter in Sonora must be taken care of by their owners.
The Twist Fire is 150 acres and firefighters will work through the night to try to gain some containment on this fire. Mandatory evacuation orders are still in place for Twist Road, the South side of Algerine Wards Ferry Road and East of Twist Road. Advisory evacuations have been issued on the North side of Algerine Wards Ferry and Richards Ranch Road. Closed roads include the intersection of Twist and Jacksonville Road and Twist and Algerine Road and Algerine and Stent Cut Off Road. The fire broke out on the 14700 block of Twist Road, south of Algerine Road near the Jacksonville Fire in the Jamestown area around 4:30 p.m.
Update at 8:15 p.m.: The Twist Fire is 150 acres with no containment. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Andrea Benson reports mandatory evacuation orders are still in place for Twist Road, the South side of Algerine Wards Ferry Road and East of Twist Road. Advisory evacuations have been issued on the North side of Algerine Wards Ferry and Richards Ranch Road. (Further evacuation details and road closures below.)
Update at 7:30 p.m.: Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Andrea Benson reports Richard Ranch Road is on Advisory Evacuation.
Update at 6:35 p.m.: Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Andrea Benson reports the Mother Lode Fairgrounds has opened as a shelter and is able to take animals. The fire remains 150 acres. All earlier evacuations remain the same.

Update at 6:15 p.m.: CAL Fire now reports the Twist Fire is 150 acres. Structures near Hog Mountain are threatened. High temps, low humidity and flashy fuels are creating rapid moving flames, according to CAL Fire.
Update at 6 p.m.: Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Andrea Benson reports mandatory evacuations for Algerine, Wards Ferry Road to Twist Road and Olds Ward Ferry to Richards Ranch Road.
Update at 5:45 p.m.: CAL Fire reports the newly named “Twist Fire” is now 30-50 acres. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Andrea Benson reports they are working with CAL Fire to determine potential evacuations.

Update at 5:30 p.m.: CAL Fire reports this is a separate fire that has reached 20 acres in size. The flame’s are moving at “rapid rate of spread.” The fire is on the 14700 block of Twist Road, south of Algerine Road. Additional roads closed is the intersection of Algerine and Stent Cut Off Road.
Original post at 5 p.m.: Jamestown, CA — If you heard the planes flying overhead and saw a plume of smoke coming up in the area of the Jacksonville Fire that’s because another fire has broken out.
CAL Fire has reported the flames broke out on the 14700 block of Twist Road. There is no word on the fire’s size or the flame’s rate of spread but structures are threatened. The CHP is closing the intersection of Twist and Jacksonville Road and Twist and Algerine Road. It is unclear whether this is a spot fire from the Jacksonville Fire. Officials are asking the public to stay out of the area. We will bring you more information as soon as it comes into the newsroom.
