Serious Injuries In Calaveras County Crash

Mokelumne Hill, CA – A solo-vehicle wreck on Highway 26 in Mokelumne Hill sent one person to the hospital.
The CHP reports the accident happened east of Sport Hill Road when 56-year-old Joseph Bautista of Union City driving a 1998 Ford Econoline van for unknown reasons swerved to the right and then overcorrected. He lost control of the van, which smashed into a dirt embankment on the northbound shoulder of the highway.
A passenger in the vehicle, 58-year-old Debra Thompson, also of Union City, was not injured in the crash. Bautista suffered major injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The CHP reports alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the accident.
