Update: Hwy 26 Closure Continues, More Repairs Underway

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – Caltrans reminds Mother Lode motorists of a highway closure due to major storm impacts while adding more slope repairs to this week’s work roster.

Currently Highway 26 is closed eastbound and westbound from Higdon Road to the North Fork Mokelumne River Bridge, just west of West Point, for major road repairs caused during last Friday’s slide-out there. (See CHP photo in left image box depicting where officers reported storm impacts eroded the dirt beneath the cracked roadway.)

Officials maintain they do not yet have an estimated date for re-opening that stretch of roadway, especially as more incoming inclement weather and cold temperatures may further impede progress. While the closure is in effect motorists should plan for delays of up to 20 minutes along alternate route detours.

Additionally, Caltrans has assigned another crew to work this week along Highway 26. It will be doing slope repairs between Gill Haven Drive and Rich Gulch Road, which are scheduled daily, weather permitting, through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. during which motorists should anticipate ten-minute travel delays.
