Wallet Theft Leads To Drug Bust

Sponsored by:

A Modesto man was arrested on a list of charges following a visit to Black Oak Casino.

A man called the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office to report that his wife’s wallet had been stolen while visiting the casino. A short time later, casino security notified the Sheriff’s Office that the theft suspect was identified on surveillance video, and he had recently returned to the casino. Security stated that the wallet was stolen after it was set next to a slot machine. The Sheriff’s Office responded and took 29-year-old Rafael Martinez into custody. After initially denying the crime, he took law enforcement to his vehicle, where he said the wallet was located.

However, no wallet could be found. Instead, deputies located a small bag of methamphetamine and a meth smoking pipe. The wallet has not been located, the Sheriff’s Office reports that Martinez “remained elusive” to its whereabouts.

Martinez was booked into Tuolumne County Jail for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft/misappropriation of property.
