Arrest Following Chase In Calaveras County

Sponsored by:

West Point, CA — A Valley Springs man was injured after getting into a motorcycle accident while being chased by a Calaveras County Sheriff’s deputy.

It happened late Sunday evening along Stanley Road in West Point. The California Highway Patrol is overseeing the investigation, and reports that a deputy attempted to pull over a 1986 Harley Davidson piloted by 29-year-old Carlos Nunez of Valley Springs at 11:35pm. Nunez turned onto a mud covered road and soon lost control of the motorcycle. The CHP reports that Nunez was ejected and suffered moderate injuries to his lower body. The Sheriff’s deputy was following behind, and was unable to stop due to the muddy condition of the road, and hit the rear of the motorcycle. The CHP reports that Nunez was not affected by the collision between the motorcycle and deputy vehicle.

Nunez was transported by ground ambulance to Mark Twain Medical Center to treat his injuries. He faces charges related to being suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and failing to yield to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department. An investigation is ongoing.
