Sheep Ranch, CA — A Sheep Ranch man has been arrested for allegedly starting the blaze that destroyed the home.

Calaveras County Sheriff’s officials report that 44-year-old Christopher John Trotter of Sheep Ranch was taken into custody at the scene. As reported here on Thursday, when firefighters arrived in the 12000 block of Armstrong Road near Scott Road just before 2 p.m. the single story home was fully engulfed in flames. Deputies questioned Trotter and arrested him for allegedly setting the home on fire. Neighbors had reported hearing gun fire coming from the home, which Sgt. Anthony Eberhardt explains, “We cannot confirm if there were shots fired or not. We believe that it was fuel from the fire that created that sound.”

Further details including a motive for setting the fire remain under investigation. Trotter’s bail is $ 250,000. All occupants in the home were accounted for and no injuries were reported, according to Sgt. Eberhardt.
