West Point, CA — The CHP has released new information about a head-on crash that caused notable traffic delays in Calaveras County on Wednesday afternoon.

Officer Toby Butzler reports that 60-year-old Lynne Cowan of West Point was traveling eastbound on Highway 26 and drifted off the right shoulder, and then overcorrected into the opposing traffic lane. Her 2006 Hyundai hit the front of an oncoming 2006 Toyota driven by 70-year-old Ronald Rankin of West Point. Both vehicles came to a stop along the north shoulder of Highway 26. The CHP reports that Cowan and Rankin both suffered “moderate” injuries. Cowan was taken by ground ambulance to Sutter Amador Hospital and Rankin was taken by air ambulance to Sutter Roseville Hospital.

The crash occurred just after 2:10pm. Drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a contributing factor in the collision, according to the CHP.
