Conceptual Plans For New Standard Athletic Facilities

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — There are various different ideas on how to expand the athletic facilities near Standard Park.

We reported earlier that Tuolumne County has hired an engineering firm to develop a conceptual master plan for a 50 acre piece of property directly across the street from Standard Park. The plan will be the foundation of a grant application, for up to $1-million, that the county plans to submit to the California Youth Soccer and Recreation Development Program. A public meeting was held earlier this month in the Board of Supervisors meeting room to gain input on what the community would like to see, and from that meeting some additional renderings have been drawn up, and a followup public meeting will be held next week.

There are currently three different concepts. (Click on image box in upper left hand corner) They all include soccer fields, additional parking, community play areas, restrooms and concession space. The three options have different numbers and sizes of soccer fields, and two options would incorporate a basketball court.

Deputy County Administrator Maureen Frank notes that all three of the current renderings would take additional community funding support and would not be fully covered by a $1-million grant. The county is currently in the process of formulating a projected cost for the different proposals. The final plan will be submitted to the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors at its October 18 meeting for final review and approval.
