September Weekend Events
There are many events lined up for this weekend, several annual events and a few new events. This Saturday, for one day only, is the Exotic Bird & Animal Expo at the Motherlode Fairgrounds in Sonora. Over at Columbia State Historic Park, they will be celebrating California Statehood Day. Sierra Repertory Theatre will present The Robber Bridegroom at the Fallon House Theatre and Columbia will also be the location of the first
Tuolumne County Missing Persons Awareness Day.
In Tuolumne on both Saturday and Sunday is the 50th Annual Me-Wuk Indian Acorn Festival. A hand game tournament with several thousand dollars in prizes.
There are two events recognizing the 15th anniversary of September 11, 2001 terror attacks. The One Love Gathering at the Refuge in Jamestown and One Voice in the Sierra Building at the Motherlode Fairgrounds.
The One Love Gathering is a 2-1/2 day event of music, yoga, workshops and local, organic foods, to co-create an experience of “the awakening heart of humanity.” On Sunday the “One Voice” Worship Celebration is an alliance of churches and organizations in Tuolumne County that include: Chapel in the Pines, Country Cowboy Church, New Life Lighthouse, Rivers of Life Christian Fellowship, Sonora United Methodist Church, South Hills Community Church, Sonora Regional Medical Center, Word of Life Fellowship. The theme for the event is “An Appeal To Heaven.” Rivers of Life Christian Fellowship Pastor Jay Wynn says, “with all that is facing this nation with the elections, economic down turn and trouble, the threat of terror attacks, and the general condition of our nation, we as Pastors deem it time to come together as churches and declare our unity in Christ and call our churches to pray for our nation. As a counter to the death and destruction our nation faces we will be raising funds to help support the new lives coming into this world through the ministry of Foothill Pregnancy Center.” Details about the event speaker are in the event listing here.
The Evan Walker Memorial Poker Run will start at The Red Barn in Sonora on Saturday and the Motherlode Area Derby will present Skeleton Crew vs Team Rex, in a Co-ed Roller Derby at the High Country Sports Arena. Open to the public skating will be from 3:30 to 5:30pm only.
Saturday is a Tuolumne County Master Gardeners Open Garden Day and there will be a Low Cost Rabies and License Clinic in Jamestown.
Over in Calaveras there will be an Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection and to support the all volunteer maintained Murphys Community Park attend the Hawaiian-themed Dinner Dance on Saturday.
