Many students are heading back to school. Most Calaveras schools began this week. Most Tuolumne County schools will begin next week.

Sonora High School Principle Ben Howell was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

According to Howell, SHS begins the new school year Tuesday August 23rd at 8:05 AM.

Bret Harte High School and the Vallecito Union School District began school earlier this week on August 17th. To the north, Calaveras Unified School District began back on July 25th. That is the only district on a year-round calendar and the students will get an extra two week break in October.

In Tuolumne County, Mother Lode Adventist Jr. Academy will start on Monday August 22nd.

Along with Sonora High School, Columbia and Soulsbyville Elementary will begin classes on Tuesday, August 23rd.

Almost every other Tuolumne Public School district will open Wednesday, August 24th. Belleview, Curtis Creek, Jamestown, Sonora Elementary, Summerville Union High and Elementary, Twain Harte, as well as Foothill Leadership Academy, Gold Rush Charter School, and Mother Lode Christian will all start August 24th. The Big Oak Flat Groveland school district including Tenaya Elementary, Don Pedro and Tioga High Schools will also start school on August 24th.

Fall classes begin at Columbia College on Monday August 29th.
