Conservation Urged Due To Statewide Flex Alert
PG&E is urging its customers to conserve energy today from 2pm-9pm.
The California Independent System Operation (CAISO) has issued a statewide “Flex Alert” due to high energy demand resulting from the extreme heat. CAISO oversees all energy on the grid for the state of California.
Due to the Flex Alert, PG&E spokesperson Brandi Merlo encourages customers to adjust thermostats to 78-degrees or warmer and turn it off if you are away from home. Other simple tips include avoid using appliances like clothes washers or dish washers during the peak period and turn all lights off upon leaving a room.
The conservation measures are voluntary. The CAISO has released a statement reading, “Electricity supplies statewide are expected to be tight because of high summer temperatures driving up demand, power plant outages, and transmission line import capacity reductions. Power imports may be limited today because of high temperatures in neighboring states.”
