First Weekend Of June Events

There are several fun events scheduled for the first weekend in June. Tonight is also Sonora High School’s graduation ceremony and Summerville’s graduation ceremony is Friday. The full list of local high school graduation dates and times and in the news story “Its Graduation Time In The Mother Lode” here.

As detailed here this weekend is the the 3rd annual Twain Harte Rotary Royal Flush Crapper Derby & Craft Fair. A parade of decorated outhouses on wheels begins at 9 am and the Outhouse Races begin at 11 am. The family event also includes Tot Pot races for ages 8 and under, a Toilet Seat Toss contest and a craft fair.

In Copperopolis the 4th Annual VFW Hot Rods and Harleys Poker Run begins at 10am on Saturday. Funds raised from the event are used for “Support the Troops” care packages sent to military serving overseas. The Veterans of Foregin Wars Post 12118 Auxiliary estimates they have shipped over 100 packages to our troops.

Escape the heat at a higher elevation and take in a lecuture on Saturday about California’s Golden Geology of the Sierra Nevada at Calaveras Big Trees State Park in Arnold.

From Sonora Red Church to the Fairgrounds the 2nd Annual Special Olympics Torch Run will happen starting at 9am. A barbeque will be held after that and the event ends at noon.

Sunday is the American Legion Sunday Breakfast  at the Veterans Memorial Hall and Military Museum in Sonora.

June has also been declared “Great Outdoors Month” by President Barack Obama, Governor Jerry Brown and the governors of 41 other states. Details are here.
