Update: Wreckage Cleared On Hwy49

Update at 6:30pm: The CHP reports the wreckage has been removed from the roadway and traffic is moving freely once again.

Update at 6:0pm: The CHP reports tow crews have arrived on the scene to being removing the wreckage.  However, one lane of Highway 49 remains blocked with officers directing traffic.

Update at 6pm: The CHP is reporting major injuries in the crash.

Update at 5:40pm: The CHP reports officers are directing one-way traffic control on the highway and that is causing a traffic backed up in both directions.

Original Post at 5:30 p.m.: Mokelumne Hill, CA — Emergency crews are on the scene of a head-on crash in Calaveras County on Highway 49.

The CHP reports two vehicles have collided on the highway between Campo Seco Turnpike and Main Street in Mokelumne Hill. Three people are reported as injured with one person pinned in a vehicle, according to the CHP. An air ambulance has been called to the scene but there is no word on injuries at this time.

A traffic alert for motorists in the area as one lane of the highway is blocked. We will bring you more details as soon as they come into the newsroom.
