Sponsored by:

Fresno, CA — Following Sunday’s burnout operations, which created heavy drift smoke, the Rough Fire east of Fresno has grown to over 95,000 acres.

The size estimate is up nearly 10,000 acres from yesterday. Firefighters burned out the area known as Hoist Ridge and carried the fire down to within a few hundred feet of the Kings River. More heavy burnout operations are planned over the next several days, weather permitting, which could result in additional drift smoke in the Mother Lode region. 1,940 firefighters are now assigned to the incident, including 48 crews, 120 engines and 12 helicopters. The fire was ignited by a lightning strike on July 31st. It is considered 31% contained.
