Crash Closes Highway 4
Update 3 p.m.: The CHP reports that Highway 4 has reopened to traffic.
Update 2:30 p.m.: The CHP has updated the crash details, reporting that two vehicles are involved. One spun out of control on Highway 4, crashing into a rock wall before it was hit head-on by another vehicle. Both vehicles are blocking the roadway and traffic is being diverted down Utica Powerhouse Road. The CHP reports major injuries with one air ambulance being called to the scene.
Original Post 2:19 p.m.: Murphys, CA — A solo-vehicle crash has traffic at a standstill on Highway 4 in Calaveras County between Murphys and Forest Meadows.
The CHP reports that a car spun out of control and hit a rock wall. Debris from the wreck required shutting down the highway near Utica Powerhouse Road. Tow crews are headed to the scene, but are stuck in traffic with an estimated arrival time of about 30 minutes, according to the CHP. An ambulance is on the scene, but there is no word on injuries.
