Sacramento, CA — California Governor Jerry Brown has issued a statement about the death of a U.S. Forest Service Firefighter.

21-year-old Mike Hallenbeck of Shingle Springs was helping to extinguish the Sierra Fire in El Dorado County, and he was tragically killed on Saturday. Hallenbeck was a member of the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. Governor Brown says, “This tragedy reminds us of the dangers firefighters face every time they suit up. Anne and I are grateful for U.S. Forest Service Firefighter Mike Hallenbeck’s service, and on behalf of all Californians, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.”

The Governor has ordered that Capitol Flags be flown at half-staff in honor of firefighter Hallenbeck.
