Lake County, CA – A close up look for Governor Jerry Brown today as he visited first responders at the 69,000 acre Rocky Fire north of San Francisco.

Fire officials are expecting to lift some of the mandatory evacuations today, as the blaze is now 40% contained. While speaking to firefighters, Brown cautioned, “Unfortunately, August and September are more threatening usually than July. So, fasten your seat belts, it’s going to be a rough ride here.”

The number of structures threatened has dropped from nearly 7,000 to 6,529. The flames have destroyed 39 homes and 53 outbuildings. Currently, there are 3,635 firefighters battling the blaze. Resources on the ground include 325 engines, 94 fire crews, 47 dozers, 43 water tenders. In the skies, there are 17 helicopters and 4 air tankers.

Wednesday Cal Fire estimated containment on Monday, but has since pushed back the date to Thursday, August 13.
