Weekend Crashes Injure Two

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Separate solo motoring accidents along Highway 49 in Calaveras County sent two people to Doctors Medical Center of Modesto over the weekend.

On Saturday, around 1:45 p.m., Juan Medina, 54, of Merced was headed south, driving a 2007 Harley Davidson at about 25 miles per hour when he lost control while taking a left-hand curve just south of Carson Hill. After hitting a right-side guardrail, he collided with the road, suffering major injuries. He was transported to Modesto by air ambulance.

Later that day, at about 6:15 p.m., while southbound on Highway 49, south of Red Hill, Ashley Petty-John, 29, of Sonora, was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram pick up truck at approximately 40 to 45 miles per hour when she failed to negotiate a curve at the crest of the roadway. CHP reports that, due to the unsafe speed at which she was traveling, she crossed and ran off the northbound lane onto the east side of the road. Due to an over-correction steering error, she drove off the right side and overturned, sustaining major injuries.

According to the CHP, neither alcohol or drugs were considered factors in the collisions.
