Cal Fire Readies For Hot Season

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA  Making sure the baselines are ready for the heat of the fire season ahead, Cal Fire will be doing drills next week.

The public will see baseline and Vallecito Camp crews conducting readiness exercises for the 2015 Fire Season. Cal Fire Chief Roy Evans explains, “Crews will be required to perform five drills, which include fire line construction, crew hike, fire engine orientation and fire hose deployment, dozer and helicopter safety, and fire shelter deployment, to evaluate their preparedness for the upcoming fire season.” Once completed, the inmates will be certified to battle blazes this fire season, according to Chief Evans.

The drills will take place at New Hogan Reservoir near the Slate Creek Campground on Wednesday, May 13 and Thursday, May 14 from 8 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. each day. Cal Fire cautions local residents to be aware there will be increased traffic, with large firefighting equipment, and fire personnel in the area.
