Sonora, CA — A motorcycle accident has claimed the life of a well-known Sonora businessman and community advocate. Larry Jones died tragically on September 11 in a motorcycle accident.

“It was one of the things Larry loved to do,” says Friend and Tuolumne County Business Council President Darrell Slocum, “He loved to spend time with friends and be on the open road. It gave him joy.”

Jones was the President of the Micro-Tronics Corporation that designs and manufactures coaxial microwave and radio frequency filters. A business, Slocum says he started in the garage of his Sonora home in 1991. The business is now located on Microtronics Way off Camage Avenue in Sonora.

“Larry is one of the people that was instrumental in the development of the industrial park there. That was very beneficial to our community,” says Slocum.

Jones was also very active in the community. He was a board member and past President of Sonora’s Stage 3 Theatre Company and on the board of the Tuolumne County Business Council (T.C.B.C.). The latter is where Slocum got to know Jones as they served on the board together. Slocum admired Jones’ heart for the community, how he gave back, and his sense of humor. However, he says his biggest attribute was, “His frankness. He was a no nonsense guy. He was very quick to offer an opinion and more times than not his opinion was spot on.”

There is no information on funeral arrangements at this time.
