Fire Safe 4th In Mother Lode
On Independence Day there were several large fires burning in the state of California, but fire activity was minimal in the Mother Lode.
CAL Fire reports that there was a small 10 ft. x 10 ft. vegetation fire that was started by people using fireworks in the Copperopolis area at about 10pm last night. It was quickly contained.
Statewide, the Gulch Fire in Modoc County is 1,600 acres and 40% contained. The Butts Fire in Napa County is 4,300 acres and 65% contained. The Monticello Fire in Yolo County is 150 acres and there is no containment. Also, yesterday afternoon a grass fire near CAL Expo in Sacramento resulted in several evacuations and came close to causing a cancellation of an evening fireworks show.
CAL Fire is urging extreme safety this weekend due to the dry conditions, high temperatures, and large amount of people out celebrating.
