Census: Mother Lode Growing Older

Sonora, CA — New Census figures show that the median age of Mother Lode residents is continuing to grow much higher than the state average.

The median age of Tuolumne County residents in 2013 was 48.3, compared to 47.9 the year prior. In Calaveras County the median age last year was 51.0, up from 50.4 in 2012.

Statewide, the median age was up to 37.6, compared to 37.5 the year prior. in 2013. Nearby Stanislaus County was 33.5, San Joaquin County was 33.4, Sacramento County 35.4, and San Francisco County 38.7.

The U.S. median age is 37.6. Nationally, Sumter County in Florida has the oldest population at 65.5, and Utah County in Utah has the lowest at 24.2.
