Sonora High Graduation Will Take Place On Campus

The Sonora High School class of 2014 will receive their diplomas at a graduation ceremony Thursday evening at Dunlavy Field on the school’s campus.

Sonora High Principal Patrick Chabot was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Earlier this year, Superintendent Dr. Mike McCoy announced that the ceremony would be moved off campus and out of the county to Ironstone Vineyards due to major work that was to take place on and around the football field.

However, according to Chabot, the work that was supposed to have started on April 1st, has not yet begun and now the graduation ceremony will take place on Dunlavy Field.

Chabot said the reason for the construction delay is at the state level.

“We will open the gates to Dunlavey Field at 5:30 p.m and the ceremony will begin at 7 p.m.,” says Chabot. “The class of 2014 was a class of diverse, gifted and enjoyable students. They will be missed.”

After twenty-one years with Sonora High School (beginning as a math teacher), Chabot took over as interim Principal on January 31st. It was recently announced that Chabot will return next year as Principal of Sonora High School, without the word “interim” attached.

The school year began with Todd Deardon as Principal. According to Superintendent Dr. Mike McCoy, Dearden agreed in January to take the position of Director of Special Projects and Programs through the end of the school year.

Bret Harte High School’s graduation is Friday evening.

Tioga High will also hold their graduation ceremonies on Friday night, June 6th.

Don Pedro High School’s graduation is at 2 PM on Saturday, June 7th

Calaveras High School graduation is Wednesday Jnue 11th.

Ted Bird High, Cassina High and Adult Education will graduate tonight in the Sonora High School gymnasium.

Summerville High/Connections Academy graduated last Friday at the football field.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard on AM 1450 KVML each weekday morning at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45am.
