Murphys Businesses Burglarized

Sponsored by:

Murphys, CA — Thieves targeted three locations, but do not get much cash.

Calaveras County Sheriff’s Officials report the Firewood Restaurant, Newsome-Harlow Wines, and the Victoria Inn were all broken into before midnight and in the early morning on Thursday, February 12th.  Detectives report the thieves got away with just over $120, 3 iPads, and eight bottles from the three locations.

Calaveras Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Hewitt says, “We were able to collect several pieces of evidence that will hopefully lead us to the suspects. Some of that evidence was fingerprints. It appears based on the method and what was taken and time of night that they would all be related.”

Hewitt estimates more than $1,400 in all was stolen with each iPad worth around $400. He reminds storeowners to empty their cash registers and put the money in a safe or deposit it in a bank.

Hewitt also says, “Leave a light on inside the business so that when our deputies are conducting foot patrols they will be able to see inside and maybe detect anything out of the ordinary.”

The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information on the burglaries you are asked to call the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department at 209-754-6500.
